Effects on Australian Society
Urban consolidation will create more room for more housing which is needed for the projected population increase in the next few decades.
As densities increase, there will be more cars per square kilometre, and not enough parking spaces. This can cause serious traffic congestion which will lead to increase in pollution.
Because the new housing during urban consolidation will be high density buildings, there will be an increase in these buildings.

Issues with Implementing Urban Consolidation in Sydney
There are several issues with urban consolidation in Sydney:
- Sydney was designed for a certain amount of density then built. This means that urban consolidation can strain the existing infrastructure and land.
- Also pollution levels will increase as Sydney becomes more urban consolidated. This can have negative economic and health impacts in Sydney. As pollution increases, the air quality of Sydney will become worse, and Sydney will be unpleasant to most people, which means that tourism in Sydney will decrease and also the number of residents since they would want to move to a less polluted place.
- The health of the residents in Sydney will also be compromised as the increase in pollution absorbed by residents can lead to lung and other diseases.
